RAISING QUALITY IN THE EARLY YEARS

Overview of services to support two year old funded places

Options can be tailored to meet your specific needs, but might include:

LOCAL AUTHORITY SUPPORT AND SERVICES…..

  • Support in developing bids which use the ITERS/ECERS as part of innovative new approaches to expanding free early years education for two year olds.
  • Training in the use of ITERS and ECERS for consultants/advisors:
    • A three day ITERS or ECERS course, including practical guided visits and an implementation workshop (focusing on using the scales for supported quality improvement and data analysis at setting or authority level). An ideal introduction to carrying out observations using the ITERS/ECERS.
    • A five day course covering both the ECERS and ITERS, including practical guided visits on both scales and an implementation workshop (as above).
  • A programme of baseline and follow-up audits to provide quantitative evidence of quality improvement. Our quality audits use the ITERS and/or ECERS to create a ‘profile’ of provision within a setting on a given day. The definable statements and scoring system of the scales provide:
    • A rigorous data collection and monitoring framework at setting and authority level
    • A detailed profile of the provision in individual settings, highlighting strengths and possible areas for development
    • Transparent criteria which can be used to support settings in improving quality through a continuous quality improvement cycle
    • A profile of strengths and areas for development at the authority level, enabling effective targeting of resources, training and support based on quantitative evidence
    • A means of measuring improvement in quality over time, both at the setting and the local authority level.
  • Tailored data analysis and reporting software.
  • Moderation to support consistent use (e.g. if the Local Authority plans to carry out an internal programme of observations to measure quality and/or change in quality).
  • Consultancy to support your Two Year Old project

PRACTITIONER TRAINING AND SUPPORT OPTIONS…...

  • A one day introduction to using the ITERS and/or ECERS for self-evaluation.
  • A three day ITERS or ECERS course, including practical guided visits and an implementation workshop focusing on quality improvement and self-assessment. An ideal introduction to carrying out observations using the ITERS/ECERS.
  • A five day course covering both the ECERS and ITERS, including practical guided visits on both scales and an implementation workshop focusing on quality improvement and self-assessment.
  • A five day ‘Leading and Managing Quality Improvement’ course for lead practitioners (e.g. EYPs). The course aims to provide leaders and managers with the tools they need to introduce and implement ECERS/ITERS effectively within their settings, to achieve change in quality.
  • Consultancy and support for settings following an ITERS or ECERS audit: a tailored programme of training, quality improvement and support which is responsive to the needs of each setting and involves all staff in the process of change.
